Liars, Fakes, Hypocrites, and Online Bullies.
Kind of long, you might not want to read through the whole thing.
So my friend http://dakracs.tumblr.com Since tumblr is being ghetto I’m leaving it like that… Anyway so my friend Dakracs. Wrote on his tumblr about Online Communities. I agree with pretty much everything he said. If you want to read it just go to his tumblr and read it. But I feel like I want to add something to it, well at least in a way. Online communities are usually a great place if you get into them while they are young. Even as they tend to age and grow there is still places for the new members. The gap between new and old will always be there but as each group is formed they form separate bonds with the members. Anyway what I really wanted to talk about is the people in power in these communities. Most who read this will automatically assume that I’ve never been in charge or had any power at all which is completely wrong by the way. But when there is one person in charge of a small group of people usually things are okay and even though that person in charge may be friendly there are those to whom they may not be fair to. Those people might not be willing to stand up to themselves because they will be shunned by the community or called a liar and be constantly harassed and intimidated until they either do something about it which results in them getting banned or if they voluntarily leave. In medium sized communities with one major person in power and several “mods” there is usually a type of kinship between the mods and the members of that community. Again there may be some unfairness going around but at least if somebody has a problem with one of the mods they can go to another and talk about it and if that mod is friends with the one who is causing problems, well then the member can go above them to the main person in charge. This is a much better system than one with a main person in charge. But there are flaws here as well. There can be kinship between some mods and the main person and even when other mods attempt to solve the problem it gets them blacklisted or even demoted. There are instances where when one mod who is friends with the main person in power doesnt like another mod and they make up lies and get the other mod kicked out. You also have the mods and owners who are friends and they bully and tease those under them in power. They treat them like garbage but because they dont want to be seen as weak or they just dont want to lose what little power they actually have they dont speak up. They keep everything bottled up inside until one day they just explode. Then you have those who tell members to do something but instead of following their own advice they do exactly the opposite and sometimes, often most of the time they are even worse than the people they yelled at and scolded for no reason. They definitely just make themselves out to be hypocrites and they tend to bully anybody under them into submission. You also have those who pretend to be your friend, you know the rats that wait until you have something bad to say and then go straight to somebody in higher power. They are the most fake of all the people online. You know they are most often the ones who blame everybody else for lying and are the most vehement about it, the ones with the most to hide. I think this is why I prefer online communities where the owner is just that, an owner. Or if they want to participate in the community then they have limited power equal to that of those they choose to moderate for them. This way they cant go crazy and decide to ban half their mods, start fights with members who are afraid to speak up, bully those younger than themselves. They really should just have limited power in all aspects except the direction of the site. This way it lessens the bullying, there can be friendship between mods, members, and owner. The owner gets to see if any of their mods need to be talked to and they can see how they treat members of the site and can see if anything being told to them is justifiable. I dont know I’m just going on and on now, I have plenty more to say on the subject but I think I wrote down enough for the day.
